ELIZABETH R. BERKOWITZ, Esquire

Elizabeth R. Berkowitz, Esquire is an attorney with an extensive and exclusive practice in the area of adoption law, based in Palm Beach County, Florida. Ms. Berkowitz is currently serving as the President of the Florida Adoption council.  She is member of the Florida Adoption Council. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Florida Adoption Council as the Treasurer. Also, she is head of the Mentoring Committee for adoption professionals and is a member of the Grievance Committee. She has also contributed to the changes made in adoption law at the legislative level. Her memberships include the Palm Beach County Bar Association, Craig S. Barnard Inns of Court, Cuban Bar Association, Florida Association of Woman Lawyers and The Federalist Society. She is certified as a Guardian Ad Litem and as a Justice Teacher for the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit. She was admitted to the Federal Bar which allows her to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court. Ms. Berkowitz was honored in 2011 as Woman of the Year for the National Association of Professional Women. Ms. Berkowitz was awarded the Adoption Star award in 2019 by the Florida Adoption Council for her contribution to the advancement of adoption on a legislative, and practitioner level.

She owns her own practice and provides representation to adoptive families in domestic private placement adoptions. Her practice is dedicated to adoption of children of all ages.  She provides representation in step-parent and relative adoptions as well.  She also provides representation in state intervention cases where a birth parents’ rights have not been yet terminated by the state.  Florida law allows that a birth parent privately place their child for adoption prior to their rights being involuntarily terminated by the state. She donates a number of pro bono hours to assisting and representing birth parents that have not had their rights protected. She has been honored to be the keynote speaker at several hospitals, pregnancy clinics, health departments and organizations.

Ms. Berkowitz prides herself on the community service that she provides to our community with her Family. She and her family run a soccer program for disabled children. She is also a NICU cuddler at St. Mary’s Hospital and a member of 100+ Women Who Care. She spends a large amount of time acting as  voice for children in the dependency system as a Guardian Ad litem.

Elizabeth spends her time on the soccer field with her family when not working. She is married and has two amazing teenage boys that love soccer. She enjoys cooking her native Cuban food and spending as much time possible with her three little dachshunds.
